Magic cards Grading Guide |
||||
Mint (M) : no card is mint, unless you work for Carta Mundi in Europe and you're pulling the cards off the assembly line. I do not work for Carta Mundi. Near Mint (NM) : a card that was pulled out of a booster pack and put into a binder. Might have someone's greasy fingerprint on it, but that can be removed (carefully) with a lint-free cloth. Very Fine (VF) : looks like a Near Mint card, but upon closer inspection you might find hair-thin scratches or scuffs. No damage to the edges or corners. If the card were in a playing sleeve, you'd think it was NM. Fine (F) : card has been played, with normal wear. Probably has some wear along the edges (from shuffling). Good (G) : [first definition of Good] Card has been played/handled heavily. Edge-wear will be present on more than two edges and might exceed 1/16" of white. [second definition of Good] cards that are otherwise NM/M, save for a *noticeable* crease or tear, will be graded in Good condition. Poor (P) : Card is in really bad condition. Card will have many scratches, creases and/or tears and may be written on. Card face may even be unreadable in certain areas. Generally any card whose condition is worse than Good is said to be Poor and will be valued accordingly. "Cards graded in (Poor) condition are excellent for players on limited budget to get good cards that may be otherwise to expensive to buy in mint condition." Hair-thin scratch : This is what happens when you put your Near Mint card on a table, and someone slides it along the table, creating a scratch that can be seen only on close inspection. Flawless : I looked very closely at this card under the light, and could not find any scratches of any kind. |
